It’s fall, y’all! I’m so excited! And Wayfair is excited too because they sponsored this post and have lots of awesome fall goodies for your shopping pleasure. They helped me create this fabulous apple inspired table setting.
While it can still be a bit warm here in the South during the day, the nights are getting cooler and the crisp morning air smells of fall. So this past weekend, my fabulous neighbors and I packed up our families and headed to the NC mountains to go apple picking. It is the first time I’ve been picking in the mountains, usually I just stay local, and I wasn’t disappointed. Because of the breathtaking surroundings and the fabulous array of apples, I was inspired to create a beautiful apple inspired table setting with a couple of my new Wayfair fall items. And the food was full of apples, too!
We headed up to Sky Top orchard just outside of Asheville in NC to pick our apples. Standing at the top of the hill you could see for miles. The air smelled of apple cider donuts and there were apple trees as far as you could see! It was the first time I truly felt that fall was HERE! And nothing beats this time of year, in my opinion. It is definitely when I am the happiest! I mean, what’s not to love? Boots and sweaters and bonfires and soups….. sounds heavenly!
The kids ran wild picking every ripe, juicy apple they could find. They may have had one to snack on along the way….. Before we knew it, our basket was full and my mind was swirling with ideas as to what I was going to do with all of these apples!
It wasn’t long before I had a menu formulated in my mind and ideas for an apple inspired table setting began to take shape. On the way home we hit my favorite flower guy and grabbed some gorgeous seasonal blooms. When we got home it was full steam ahead making this apple inspired dinner and setting the table to match.
I used the apples and some squash along with vibrant sunflowers and dahlias to lay out the centerpiece. I have a large, square dining table so sometimes it can be a bit tricky creating a table setting. The mixture of apples and seasonal flowers really allowed me to capture the farm to table experience I had earlier in the day. My family picked the apples I was using in the dinner and decor. So fabulous!
The menu consisted of butternut squash soup (it calls for 2 apples!), arugula salad with Asian pears (we picked those, too!) and a pork roast with apple and fennel. I was so excited to finally use these adorable pumpkin soup bowls from Wayfair. The woven rattan placemats I used just added to the rustic elegance of the centerpiece.
We had so many apples that I was able to spread them around the room for added ambience. I know I don’t show off my dining room much. It always seems to be the catch-all place for our stuff. I’m glad I can give you a little glimpse of it right now! There is some sprucing I still have to do in there but I promise to show it all off really soon!
By the time dinner was ready, my trusty sidekick was pooped and he didn’t even do the apple picking! I guess my apple inspired table setting tired him out. Stay tuned for all of my apple inspired recipes that made this dinner delicious!
A big thank you to Wayfair for sponsoring this post! What a great way to start off fall!
