Last week I shared with you my horribly disorganized and cluttered workspace. Well, I am happy to announce that I have gotten my act together. At least as far as my desk is concerned. One thing at a time people! And I did it using what I already had. That’s the best part. No cost organizing and decorating makes me happy. Here is how I did it……
If you need a refresher of last week’s post here it is.
I have to say, the #1 way I organized my space was by starting with a big purge. I removed everything from my desk – inside and out – and if it didn’t have a home or wasn’t necessary it went into the trash. That simple.
Considering that my workspace is in the middle of my great room, it has to be functional and stylish. I had to start with the actual work stuff. Fabric samples, product catalogs, wallpaper samples, paint decks – they are all essential to my business so they had to be front and center. The storage boxes I got at Target years ago. I have always used them, I just didn’t really make them a focal point. The cute little metal labels I actually found while cleaning out my desk. I knew my hoarding would come in handy! These little storage boxes help hide the untidiness.
Then I added back in my favorite things. A picture of my kiddos pretending to like each other is a must! It reminds me that they really do love each other even though they fight like a cat and dog. The horse head book end and the Hustle Darling picture are two of my favorite things. My weekly menu binder and my home binder fit in nicely with some design books.
The wrapping paper finally found its way back into the closet and you can actually sit on this chair if you would like. This great storage basket hides a some very necessary blogger tools – my cameras!
I used to keep all of my camera stuff in the large file drawer but then I noticed that my desk was getting full of papers. Probably because I didn’t have any room to actually file stuff. Duh! So I moved everything to this little basket that used to be filled with Legos in the playroom. Now it is easy to access and hides my stuff beautifully.
If you didn’t believe that my desk is in my great room, here is a better shot of that. Hopefully next time you see my workspace it will be just as tidy as it is now. And my ratty old sofa will be reupholstered!
