Saturated color is all the rage this year. The brighter and bolder, the better. People are saying that white and gray are out. And when I had the chance to revamp my entire house in 2016, I chose white. Why you ask? The answer is simple.
White is the most versatile color there is. ( Ok, I guess black is too. There’s a lot of that in my house as well.) I don’t know about you, but I can’t redecorate every year. Buying new furniture on a whim is not in my budget. But I can trade out pillow covers and blankets and other accessories. Just see below…. and we’ve only lived here for a few months!
This way I never get bored. And for me, boredom means that I go a little crazy. Plus, whenever I get the itch to redecorate, I just hit up my accessories stashes. Even my bedroom gets the “white” treatment. However, it is super easy to add color whenever I want to with bedding and pillows.
Some of you may think I am crazy. I do have 2 kids and a big dog. But our main family room is where we watch TV and hang out. It has a slipcover on the sofa so if it gets dirty I just pull it off and wash it. Super easy. As for the big white sectional, I’m a little more careful with that. But it’s mostly adults that hang out in there anyway so I don’t worry too much. The white kitchen stays clean because the grime shows up quickly. And the dark counter tops keep it grounded. I can add splashes of color with fun kitchen accessories, too!
I also kept the walls white in many rooms of the house. Mostly because I wasn’t ready to decorate them yet. Also because I wanted to keep this house light and bright. Our last house was a bit dark and I didn’t like that part of it. I wanted everything in here to be filled with natural light. So by decorating mostly in white, it feels light and airy even on rainy days. And decorating with white doesn’t mean that everything has to be white. Just some of the main elements of the room.
Even in my dining room, with dark walls, I have white chairs and a white chandelier. It stays very open and bright. So as much as I love color, I had to decorate with white. And I really don’t think it is going out of style any time soon!
