Who doesn’t love vintage botanical prints?
Well, I guess there are a few of you. Perhaps I can change your mind!
I adore them! I would fill my house with them if it wasn’t weird. They are amazing! The colors and the subjects – plants, animals, birds, fish…..
Anyhow, I have recently put a few up around the house.
I went to the ICA Show with my mother over the holidays. I love that place! There was one booth there that had hundreds of these great botanical prints. All aged and beautifully vintage! I could’ve bought them all! The gentleman running the booth had everything very reasonably priced. For real collectable botanicals you can pay hundreds of dollars. His ranged from $20 – $150. And he was so knowledgeable.
I saw these great fern prints. And the green was so fantastic and vibrant that I had to have them. I was in the process (and still am) of redecorating my powder room. The direction I’m going in involves that beautiful emerald green. These ferns were perfect.
I also saw some gorgeous bird prints, much larger than the ferns. I fell in love. I fell in love with several but only needed two. They reminded me of these from Ballard Designs but had more saturated color and more detail.
I bought them all! The ferns cost me $10 a piece and the birds were $45 a piece. I got a bulk discount! I framed them up and hung ’em up. I am in love!
The colors on the birds are amazing! I love them more and more each time I look at them. I had them professionally framed at Hobby Lobby.
The ferns now reside in my powder room that is still undergoing its transformation so there aren’t any good photos of them hung. But here is a photo, pre-hanging. I had mats cut to the custom size and I spray painted some cheap frames gold to match my new light fixture. Don’t worry, I’ll share the makeover as soon as it is complete!
Vintage botanicals make me happy. As happy as antlers and fresh flowers around the house!
