I am not one of those people who is going to get all “I hate Valentine’s Day” on you. I don’t hate it. I just don’t go crazy over it. Perhaps its because I tell my husband and children that I love them every day. Or because I buy them treats “just because”. I don’t need a single day to show my love. Therefore, I don’t go over the top decorating my house for Valentine’s Day. I kind of “un-decorate” for it.
Now you are scratching your head because you have no idea what I mean. Well, I’ll show you.
There’s not too much to my “un-decorating” strategy. Honestly, it’s not rocket science. Anyone can do it. Here’s the key:
Use everyday objects and stuff you have around the house. Don’t buy decorations.
See. It’s that simple.
All of these pillows were in my bedroom. I just moved them to the keeping room because they are red. Simple!
And the Coca-Cola box was on the lower shelf of the coffee table. Now it is on top, because it is red.
I got this tinsel wreath at Target last year. I just laid it over a wedding photo. Viola!
I filled glass jars with Valentine’s Day candy corn. I just happened to see it on display at Fresh Market. Awesome!
And I put up my wedding photo and flanked it with wedding photos of my parents and my husband’s parents. Cute!
My kids came in and said “Mom! You decorated for Valentine’s Day!” I smiled because it took 5 minutes and they were happy.
You can truly “un-decorate” for any time of year. Just take away here and there and add a little back in. It’s fun and you will be amazed at what subtle changes can do in your home!
