Hello there! Did you miss Try It Tuesday? Severe Internet issues at my house kept me from posting yesterday, but I did save it for next week! I can’t wait to share a FAIL with you.
Today I want you to see some subtle changes that I have made around my house. I’ve made some subtle changes that have BIG impact. Just simple stuff you can do too. And almost all of it involves the floor.
First, I’d like to start with the simple and subtle. Have you ever thought about your floor registers? (if you have them) Or your radiators? Do you ever feel like they are blah or gross or an eyesore? I did and do. So I found some new floor registers that I love on one of my trips to Lowes in search of something else. They make such and impact to me, but nobody else would notice unless I pointed them out. Or maybe they would. I think that by disguising or beautifying registers or radiators you can subtly add charm to your space.
I also moved the dining room rug to the keeping room. It adds a punch of color that was needed. More on that change in another post.
In order to move the dining room rug to the keeping room, I needed to replace the rug in my dining room. I got a rug I had been coveting for years. YEARS….. And I’m so happy that I did it. You can see how my dining room evolved through the One Room Challenge this October. ( Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5, Week 6) This new Antelope rug from Stark was like putting the cherry on the sundae. Unfortunately, it came too late to be in the One Room Challenge photos. But it has such a HUGE impact in the room. It enhances the neutral color scheme while also adhering to my personal decorating rule: at least 1 animal print in every room!
The biggest room of all got the biggest rug of all. Remember the contemporary, swirly rug I had in my great room? Well, I’m not a contemporary kind of gal. I had to go with something more traditional. It has my brown and cream and gold colors in it with a hint of gray and blue. The rug has the same style as the foyer rugs so that they blend seamlessly. I feel like the entire room got a makeover. It’s lighter and brighter (and doesn’t show as much dog fur).
I also took out the round coffee table and replaced with an old trunk I’ve had for years. I found it on the side of the road. Really. Just that subtle change turned the room around for me. It went from a room I felt like I was fighting with to a room that reflected my style more.
I change my mind a whole lot. Like, as soon as I buy something I’m sick of it. Honestly. So purchasing big ticket items like rugs is a big deal for me. But by changing out some furniture and rearranging things I already had, I minimized the expenses and got spaces that I really love. I hope these rugs stick around for a while. However, I am in love with a cowhide I saw…….
