Spiced Apple Cider

Who has been apple picking lately?  My favorite part about apple picking, other than being out in the country, is the hot apple cider that is served at the barn after you pick your apples.  So I decided to create my own hot spiced apple cider so that I could enjoy it any time I want.

You need 3 whole cinnamon sticks, some whole allspice, some whole cloves, a bottle of apple juice and a dash of nutmeg.  Put all of the whole spices in some cheesecloth and tie.  Drop the spice sachet into a pot filled apple juice and bring to a boil.  Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.  Remove the sachet and put in a dash of nutmeg.  Serve.


I like to garnish mine with a cinnamon stick.  You can also top it with whipped cream and drizzle with caramel.
