So the home renovation is humming along! Sometimes the hardest part of construction is when you don’t see progress. I have seen progress every day. Seriously. I have the best contractor.
However, sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. I mean that in the best possible way.
See all of that ugly stone on the front of the house? Well, that is gone. Gone! But underneath is an ugly mess of rust and wood rot and this……
Termite damage!!! Even though no active termites were found when we purchased the home, they were there before and the damage was never repaired. The saying in the South is if you don’t have termites, you’re going to get them.
Then there’s that time we tore down a wall…..
The kitchen used to look like this. Don’t you just love that peek-a-boo cutout over the sink? (insert sarcasm here)
Well, here it is now….. Much more open and spacious but it definitely looks like a mess. We had to relocate a vent pipe and some plumbing and a gas line that were all in that wall. It adds up.
Drywall is supposed to start today which means that the house will begin to look like it is coming together. Tile is being ordered and light fixtures are ordered. Now the fun stuff will start.
The outside is another story. Still a lot of construction that needs to go on out there. Our contractor is working overtime to get us out of temporary housing so the outside will be last.
The moral of this story…. be patient and prepare to find stuff underneath what you rip down.
