So, last week my husband and I sat down to see where we were at as far as the budget went. Let’s just say that I almost ended up sleeping on the couch….. So on this installment of Renovation Realities I am discussing how to stay on budget, or at least try…..
Things are moving along so quickly! The front porch is being put on. The tile is being stalled. The kitchen cabinets are being installed. All of the plumbing fixtures have been delivered. Almost all of the light fixtures have been delivered. So how is the budget doing?
Let’s just say that I am a decorator, not an accountant.
We have gone a tad bit over. Mostly because we forgot to account for the little things that we added to the project. The wine fridge. The light fixtures. The super-duper tile choices. Replacement of damaged hardwoods. New door handles. It all adds up.
Here is my #1 suggestion. Set up a really good spreadsheet and make sure you update it often.
My #2 suggestion is to do your research before you even start the project. I had no idea that front door handles cost upwards of $300!
And my last bit of advice give yourself a buffer. If your renovation budget is $30,000 you better plan on $35,000. Things come up. That’s just the way it is.
All of this being said, I am almost giddy about the way everything is coming together! This is the most exciting project I have ever done! I can’t wait to share more with you.
