I have decided to join the One Room Challenge. It is a linky where bloggers are taking 6 weeks to transform one room in their house. I figured I needed a good kick in the pants for this. My dining room could use a makeover before the holidays. And not just a makeover but some serious plastic surgery!
My dining room is a bit of a dumping ground. I sew in there (or at least try to). I stage in there. I just toss stuff in there when I have no other place to put it. Nice for a room you see as soon as you walk in to the house, huh?
I have dreams of holding a dinner party. And making the room dark and cozy. I can see it now! This is my inspiration.
There are parts and pieces of the room that I love. My dining table, for starters. It is a square and fabulous, wonderful wood that I don’t even low what it is called but the grain is amazing. It has very clean lines so it can go any design direction you choose. My china cabinet is beautiful as well. Red and distressed with glass doors, however, the contents are a mess. And lastly, I ADORE my chandelier. It is fairly new. I got it about 9 months ago for a bargain seeing as it retails for $1200! It was discontinued and this was the last showroom model. The owner of the store just wanted to sell it – for under $400!
Here is what I would like to add. I saw this fabric at a show house. I immediately fell in love. I hunted down the fabric and decided that it would be curtains for my dining room. It has just a little red to match the china cabinet.
Then I ended up getting a carpet sample of antelope carpet. It can be cut and bound to make a rug. A square rug, which is almost impossible to find. And I matched up some paint. Yes, the darkest one!
But now I have to implement all of this. I haven’t painted. I haven’t made the curtains. I haven’t priced the rug. So I thought this challenge would be just the kick in the pants I needed to get it done!
