OK, I know that I may be getting ahead of myself here. But I just had to start shopping for accessories. I always say when designing something “Start with the end in mind” and this is no different. For this week’s One Room Challenge update I am showing you my hunt for accessories and the right paint color.
So, as you saw from my “before” photos and my inspiration photos (week 1 here), I have space between my washer and dryer and I want shelves to fill the space. So the hunt for suitable shelves, that we can make look custom, began. Or at least shelves that will function and be aesthetically pleasing. Here were the choices I found:
I figured the Mulig we could keep with that industrial, masculine laundry room vibe. The Apelviken I could paint and trim out to look a bit more built in, and the Stafford I could knock the back off and it would look pretty good. So off I went to IKEA to scope out those two shelves. Pretty much as soon as I walked in, all bets were off. And there it was!!!! The Stenstorp Kitchen Cart. A kitchen cart had never crossed my mind! But it is perfect. Shelves on the bottom and a counter to fold clothes on. SOLD!
Except they are all out. (wah! wah!) Until next week when I check back. Cross your fingers for me because they won’t sell me one of the 10 floor models they have. I did also pick up some cute little wall storage accessories but I’ll save those photos for later. So I didn’t leave empty handed.
Now for paint. I am in the process of choosing the right paint color. The color of dried dirt, the color of dried clay, or a creamy white? I’m leaning toward the creamy white. (Alabaster from Sherwin Williams) The goal for next week is to have the laundry room painted and the cabinets begun. Wish me luck!
