So we have torn it apart. We are completely in the middle of the bathroom remodel for my son. There’s nothing there but the tile floor. THE TILE FLOOR! What a hug hiccup! We had no idea that this would happen. Hopefully it is easily fixed!
First we removed the mirror. If you have a mirror that is held in by those silver clip things and you have no idea how to get that mirror out, I’m here to help. Simply push in and up on the center of the mirror. It will unclip and you will be able to lift it out.
Next you need to cut all the caulk in order to remove the counter top and cabinet safely. Careful use a drywall knife to cut the caulk.
Then, use a very thick flat-head screwdriver or a small chisel to begin to pull the backsplash away from the wall.
You should be able to get the screwdriver in between the backsplash and counter at this time. Just do this slowly so that the drywall doesn’t pull away too and then you are left with a big hole in the wall. 🙂
So we got everything out safely. Yippee!
Then we saw the big hole in the floor. And the new vanity doesn’t cover it like the old one did. Ugh! That means that we have to put in a new floor! That wasn’t in the budget! And this floor isn’t coming up easily. Or at all for that matter. Some genius decided to mortar down the backer board then mortar down the tile. Yep. 2 layers of mortar. We may finish this next year! But at least the new tile was ordered!
