So, I’ve been keeping a secret from you all for quite some time. It explains my sporadic behavior and less than stellar posts over the past month. Are you ready? We are moving! But it’s not just any move, it’s kind of a big project.
I am tapping in to my inner Chip and Joanna Gaines and we bought “the worst house in the best neighborhood”. Some of our best friends live in this neighborhood, my kids best friends live in this neighborhood AND we can walk to school. Awesome! It just needs some serious love. For example:
This is the exterior of the house. As you can see, the landscaping is overgrown and its just not that attractive. And the stone, well, the stone isn’t really orange. That’s rust. Something is rusting, either behind the stone or within the stone, and causing all of that discoloration. Needless to say, we are changing the whole front. Because it’s ugly. But our architectural team came up with the most dreamy concept and I can’t wait to see what our contractor says!
Exhibit B, the kitchen…. Yep, that’s going too! The cabinets are thermofoil (laminate), the appliances are old, and the layout is awkward. On a good note, the breakfast area has soaring ceilings and good light. We are going to open up the space, add a huge island and make it the best darn kitchen ever!
We are also redoing the entire master bathroom area. It is currently too awkward to even photograph. Actually, we are redoing every bathroom in the house. All of them are dated and boring.
There are definitely some redeeming qualities about the house, otherwise we wouldn’t have bought it. The ceilings are high without being cavernous. Which is awesome! The layout is good. With a few tweaks, it will be great. There are spaces that I’ve been dreaming of like a full size laundry room that can accommodate a “drop zone” for kid gear. There will be his and hers closets in the master. My daughter has a huge closet in this new house. There is an unfinished 3rd floor, too! But now for my favorite part….
The game room! And this is only one half of it. The other side has a pool table which the sellers left for us. This is the best house for entertaining. Seriously. And with my kids friends living in the neighborhood, I figure it will be full of kids at all times.
So there’s my big secret! We bought a new house that we are renovating. We have to be out of our current house next month so there will be some apartment living this summer. But it will all be soooooo worth it!
