What is your New Year’s resolution this year? Is it the same one you make year after year but just can’t stick to? Instead of making the same resolution again for myself, I chose to make a broad one. It’s all encompassing and it is for real. There is no getting around it….. live with purpose.
I know, it sounds corny, but this is my only resolution. I want to live with purpose. Because it is so easy just to float by. It’s easy (and sometimes not so easy) to do what we do, with or without enjoyment, to get through each day. And people notice that it becomes tiring and our performance slips and we aren’t enjoying our life that much.
What does living with purpose mean? It can mean different things to different people. To me it means making the effort at all times in the ways that matter. Because your effort counts and people care. I am the queen of just getting by. Seriously. Most people would be surprised to know this because I do it pretty well. I just do what needs to be done. But I’ve realized what a mistake that is. Because it doesn’t take more time to tell my friends why they are special, or give my children an extra hug, or make my husband’s favorite meal because he’s been traveling all week and I’m happy he’s home. The difference is that it is done with purpose.
This year I want to learn and grow and become better…. at everything that matters to me. Because it’s never too late to do that. And I want to set an example for my children. I will cut back on doing it all. I will only do the things that matter and do them well.
In 2015 I promise to make the effort. To work harder, be grateful for every day with my family and friends, enjoy my time and my career. Because all of this blogging and cooking and decorating is turning into a real live career. And I’m thrilled! I want to do it every day because I enjoy it. But I can’t just get by anymore. I have to be purposeful with my time. I have to go the extra mile. And I will.
