It has been one year since we purchased the Chateau. I can’t recall being happier with a purchase in my life. This house is home. Our neighbors are amazing! Our surroundings are beautiful! I am grateful everyday when I pull into the driveway.
But it didn’t start off that way. I didn’t even want to buy this house the first time I saw it.
When I came back to look at it several months later, it was almost like the Universe said: “I saved it just for you!”
And I knew that with a little TLC, it would be the perfect house for my family. And it has been!
A lot of changes have been made here over the last year. Let’s take a look…..
Do you remember all of the before and after’s I have done? There are quite a few. Looking back on them I can see how busy I’ve been over the last year. And I’m still not done! But that is why I love this house. It’s beautiful but has the potential to be gorgeous!
Let’s start off with the most dramatic makeover….. the keeping room.
When we bought the house it looked like this:
And after a little paint it looks like this:
We also tackled the kitchen.
When we first looked at the house, we saw the kitchen like this. Dark and dreary to say the least, with oversized light fixtures and green panels on some cabinets. So I chose some paint….
I also changed the light fixture and hardware. And what a difference!!!
Adjacent to the kitchen is an great breakfast nook with a built-in buffet and hutch. It’s great, but when we bought the house it had a light fixture resembling a satellite dish and those hideous orangey cabinets. Now it looks like this:
Finally, we get to the great room. Before it seemed so expansive! I remember walking through it and thinking “how will I ever fill this room?”. But I have and it feels very cozy now, despite the size.
Here is the before:
And here it is now:
When I look back at all of this, I realize how much was accomplished over the last year. And there is so much more that I want to do! But this house makes me happy. The people that live in it and around it are what make it home.
