Do you ever get the itch to redecorate, on a whim, but don’t want to spend the money? I get it all the time! Unfortunately, my daughter has the same itch. And this weekend we decided to tackle her bedroom. I like to call this itch “house sprucing” and it is the low/no budget way of making our house feel new again.
My daughter has a bedroom as colorful as her personality. As she gets older, though, she has started to curate it a little better. She knows what she does want and what she doesn’t want. She is learning to keep her space organized and tidy.
Lately, her biggest want is a daybed. Several of her friends have them and I adore the way they look! They really open up a room. And given she still plays with her American Girl dolls in her room, she needs the floor space. But right now, we are in the midst of our landscaping overhaul (I promise to share later!) and buying new furniture isn’t happening. So we decided to make due with what we had and did some house sprucing.
We took the headboard off of her bead and turned the bed sideways to mimic a daybed. It’s amazing how good in looks!
Having the bed like this also freed up some wall space and allowed me to overload her bed with pillows. I love to have a ton of pillows on a bed. It makes it feel more inviting, don’t you think? Given that there are so many colors in her bedding, I have had lots of fun adding pillows to it over the last few months to tie it all together.
With the extra wall space, I decided to start a collage of black and white photos of the the things she loves. We hung a curtain rod and I have curtains that I’ve been holding on to for ages. I think that if animals could roll their eyes, my cat would be doing it. She sat on that chair as I set pins in the new curtains.
Overall, I believe that this house sprucing adventure was a success! I am waiting on the curtain rings to come in and then I can hang the curtains. Other than that, this room looks like a new space! Once budget allows we will be adding more elements- like an actual daybed. Stay tuned for that!
