Who doesn’t love cranberry sauce on their holiday table? Not that congealed stuff that comes from a can. No, no! The real deal! It’s actually easier to make than you think!
Gather up your supplies. You will need:
1 bag of fresh cranberries
1 orange – using the zest and juice
1 C. sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
In a saucepan over medium-low heat, start your cranberries.
Zest your orange and get about 1/2 Tbsp. of zest. Be careful not to get the pith (the white stuff). It is bitter and will cause your sauce to taste a tad bitter as well.
Add your zest and sugar to the cranberries.
Then toss in your cloves and cinnamon. Squeeze out the juice from the orange into the sauce.
Bring it all to a boil and then turn it down to low heat. Simmer for about 30 minutes or until all the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
Now is the fun part… SCAVENGER HUNT! You have to dig out those cloves and cinnamon sticks.
Let your sauce cool and serve. You can make this up to 2 days in advance and just leave it in the fridge. Serve cold or at room temperature.
