Fall has finally arrived with its cool, crisp mornings and evenings, falling leaves and boots and sweaters! I am so happy! It made a late arrival in the South this year. I had a hard time getting in the mood… it would feel like fall and then summer would swoop back in. I decided not to get my hopes up any more. But now it really is here! And I wanted to celebrate with a cocktail. My husband and I don’t always have the same taste in adult beverages so I’ve been trying really hard to come up with things that involve bourbon, his fave. So I created a his and hers fall cocktail with spiced bourbon and apple cider. I called it his and hers because I think it suits us both.
This was really easy to make even though it looks all fancy. I took 2 shots of a plain Kentucky bourbon and added a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to it. I put it in a little mason jar for the day and allowed the spices to infuse the bourbon. Overnight probably would have been better. Anyway, it still tasted good and wasn’t as “spicy” as spiced rum would be. Although, you could use that if you prefer.
The first thing I did was rim the glass in some caramel. Just buy some caramel sauce or the apple dip that is so readily available right now. It’s the perfect accent to the glass and to the drink. I would dare to say that the caramel is the “hers” part of this his and hers fall cocktail with spiced bourbon and apple cider. It sweetens it all up! Then I filled the glass with ice.
Make sure to shake up your bourbon before you pour it in. One shot to each glass and then fill the rest with apple cider. Stir and garnish with an apple slice, a cinnamon stick and a dollop of whipped cream.
Easy and yummy and both of us liked it! I guess that the “his and hers” part worked out! Yay! Maybe next time I’ll add little more whipped cream, just because I like it. This would also be good warm. I think that is best saved for winter. Hot toddy, anyone? Cheers!
