Welcome to the Great Southern Road Trip! 20 Southern bloggers are sharing with you the best stuff to go, see and do when in our home town. Being able to share my town with you is such a treat! I had always dreamed of living in the South. Especially when it was freezing cold outside and everything was covered in an inch of ice with 6 inches of snow on top. So when the time came to spread my wings, I spread them right out of Connecticut and landed in Charlotte, NC. I haven’t left since. I call a small town outside of Charlotte my home, Davidson, NC.
You may have heard of Davidson on several different occasions. Perhaps it is because of Davidson College. It is a liberal arts school with a beautiful campus right in the center of town. Davidson residents are very proud of this school.
Or maybe it is because of Steph Curry, the Golden State Warriors superstar, who went to Davidson College and grew up in the area.
Or maybe it is because of my personal favorite reason, it is spectacular! We have a beautiful town center with quaint little shops, great places to eat, and a town green that hosts concerts all summer long. Children ride their bikes to the library. People walk their dogs along the tree lined streets. Everyone says hello and has a smile on their face. They aren’t in a hurry or being rude. It feels as though everyone knows everyone, even if they don’t.

The best place in town has to be Kindred. It is a restaurant hailed by Bon Appetit magazine as one of America’s best new restaurants in 2015. And it doesn’t disappoint. From it’s quant street side tables to the 100 year old brick lined walls to the mismatched plates, the place looks as good as it tastes. My favorite thing on the menu? The fried oysters.

So after you finish up having lunch at Kindred, perhaps it is a Sunday and you can take in a concert on the green. The green is a large open space in front of the library. The front porch of the library serves as a stage. Make sure you set up your blanket or chairs early! Bringing your own food and beverage is encouraged. I enjoy a nice charcuterie plate and some wine. Others may want to dash over to Millstone Bakehouse and pick up a premade concert basket or over to Davidson Pizza for their own pie. However you do it, you will enjoy some fun music while your kids play with their friends, because everyone is a friend in Davidson.

For my perfect concert basket I like to include the following:
Proscuitto
Salami
Fig jam
Carr’s Water Crackers
Manchego cheese
Brie Cheese
Olives
A lovely rose’ wine
Add in a picnic blanket and some good friends, and you have a party! It is a must do when visiting Davidson. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
