Happy (almost) Fourth of July! I hope you all are planning on celebrating the independence of our country in style! So here is a little tutorial to create some really adorable hair bows for your peanut to wear to a July 4th celebration.
I came up with this out of necessity. My daughter rides horses. And for those of you who aren’t familiar with this sport, the attire is very particular. For the younger girls (under 12, usually) pigtails and big hair bows are a must. But if you try to purchase these bows at a show or a local tack shop, they can run you $30 – $50! Are you kidding?! So I decided to make my own. For $5.
First, choose 3 different ribbons. The ribbon you want to put in the back, cut to about 8″ and form a circle with it. Hot glue or fabric glue it together. Do this 2 times.
Then with the second ribbon, do the same but cut it to 7″. Then form your circles and glue together. Do this 3 times.
Lastly, make smaller circles this time. Cut the ribbon to 5″ or 6″ in length. Make your circles and glue. Do this 4 times.
Now, starting with the first ribbons (the longest), twist them into figure-8 and glue them together in an X. Allow to dry. Then start with the second ribbon. Do the same. Twist into a figure-8. Glue them down in a circular pattern. And finally with the last…. you know the drill.
Once all the glue was dry, I put a jewel at the center and glued a hair tie to the back. Done!
