Fall decorating is my absolute favorite. Have I mentioned that before? And because the temperatures are nearing 90 here in the South, I’ve been a little slow to get it all done. I still can’t find any pumpkins that look decent and I’m afraid if I buy mums, they will shrivel and die in the heat. So, I’ve been slowly going room by room and sprucing things up for fall. I’d like to share with you our family hang out space, the game room. I shared some tid-bits about it but never really done a full room tour. The game room is all decorated with teal and orange for fall.
Our game room is a really massive space. It can technically be classified as 2 rooms. One room has the TV and sitting area with the fire place. The other room has the pool table and the poker table. (Full disclosure: the pool table and the poker table came with the house.) When we bought the house, the whole room was painted this rust red color. It was awful. The built-ins were a deep cherry wood color and the fireplace had this dinky mantle over the top of it. But I knew that we would spend a lot of time in that room.
I painted the walls a really pale blue-green color (Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams) and kept the furnishings neutral. My goal was to make this a fun space without having it look like a playroom. I put shiplap up the fireplace to make it stand out a bit more and had a natural beam put in as the mantle. It took me forever to decorate that mantle!
The blueish walls and neutral decor made teal and orange the perfect combo for fall. I fell in love with these two Robert Allen fabrics (the birds and the modern toile) and had pillows made out of them. The teal and orange just add the perfect pop and work well with the wall color.
I still have lots of changes I want to make to this room. I do want to make it fun without being kitschy, but that is a tough balance! Something has to be done with the wet bar area to make it more useful and I seriously need to get rid of that poker table. I hate it! But if I didn’t have house projects I wouldn’t be happy so it’s a good thing!
These chairs are so comfy! They are my husband’s favorite place to sit and watch TV.
My daughter’s favorite spot is this fluffy bean bag chair from PB Teen. I know that I need to get another one. I have been known to walk into the room and see 3 little girls and a dog all piled on that one bean bag! I usually take over the sofa with the dogs. My son hangs at the computer over in the corner. We keep the computer in the family space so we can always see what is going on. #helicopterparent
Here is the “game” part of the family game room. Since the pool table was just left behind, we kept it. But I can assure you, I would not have chosen it. It is way too traditional for my taste. But it is fun to have. Some days after school I will hear my son and his friends just messing around playing pool. On the weekends the adults have been known to gather in here. My husband swears he is going to start a poker night, but he hasn’t gotten around to it.
I also don’t mind if the kids eat and drink in here. The pub table is a nice resting spot and I let them eat at the poker table because I want to get rid of it sooooo badly!!!
We absolutely love these rooms of the house. They really promote family and friend time. And since fall is my favorite time to gather people together, the teal and orange are perfect! I promise to let you know when the pumpkins and mums come! Then I’ll show off my front porch.
