Can you believe that it’s time to get ready to go back to school?! Where did the summer go?! I will openly admit, I am ready to get back into the swing of things. I crave routine and order. Summer is the opposite of that. So back to school time is my favorite! It always has been, as strange as that is. Shopping for school supplies was so much fun, and then I’d arrange my desk and backpack. For my daughter, it just has to look good. She could care less about the functionality. Creating a stylish homework station for her was a must. If it’s cute, she’ll actually use it!
Currently, my daughter’s favorite color is blue. Not just any blue…. a light turquoise blue. So first on the list for creating a stylish homework station was to incorporate favorite colors. The little bin that houses her school supplies is her favorite color. So is the planner that I purchased for her. I also made sure to include a little sparkle.
Make sure to have supplies to be creative with, not just functional. The reason I am focusing on my daughter is because she is my more creative child. She is colorful and happy and not organized at all….. she loves to write stories and make things. When it comes time for homework she isn’t so happy. It’s a struggle, but I decided that when she’s writing stories, if she can color in the margins or illustrate them, it’s even better for her. Washi tape and stickers make writing in her planner more fun, too!
It’s all about the fur with girls right now. My daughter and all of her friends love faux fur pillows and throws, even in their fashion with vests and coats. So another tip for creating a stylish homework station is to make the seating comfy and stylish. When I found this stool, I knew it was perfect. My girl can twirl and wiggle to her hearts content on it and it’s super fuzzy and cute!
Everyone needs to be inspired. I am trying to teach my kids to keep inspiration all around them. My favorite way to inspire myself and others is with quotes. So, keep inspirational quotes nearby. And also keep mementos of their accomplishments near the homework station. It reminds them that hard work pays off!
And last, but certainly not least, creating a stylish homework station means keeping it stylish. Make sure to incorporate storage so that it can be tidied up quickly. If it doesn’t look good, they may not want to use it!
