Beef and Gruyere Tart

I know, I know.  It sounds all fancy but it isn’t.  At all.  It is super easy and you can throw it together in no time.  Like all of my recipes, it’s family friendly and you will love it.  This beef and gruyere tart is pretty much a pizza with no sauce and a cheese other than mozzarella.  Give it a shot.

First of all, it is store bought pizza dough (raw) that you need for this recipe.  No need to make your own, unless you really want to.  The key is to pre-bake it for a bit so it doesn’t take so long to cook in the oven.  So head the oven up to 400 degrees, spread the dough on a greased cookie sheet or pizza stone and pop it in the oven for 8 minutes (or whatever the directions tell you.)

While you are pre-baking the dough in the oven, you brown the beef (1 lb. ground beef) with a tablespoon of hamburger seasoning.  Once that is done, remove it from the pan with a slotted spoon and leave all of the juices behind.  You will also want to shred 1/3 lb. gruyere cheese.  It’s a milder Swiss cheese and so creamy and good.

Then its time to toss in the shiitake mushrooms and the thinly sliced red onion.  (Don’t forget to check on the dough.  You don’t want it to cook all the way.  Just until it is yellow in color.)  Sautee the onion and mushrooms in the pan drippings from the beef over medium heat.  Take your dough out of the oven and get ready to dress it up.

Now spread the beef over the dough.  Then add the mushrooms and onions.  End by sprinkling the cheese and pop it back in the oven for 5 minutes or so.  Take it out and serve it up.  So yummy!  It makes the perfect appetizer for a crowd if you cut it up small, or dinner for the family.  I can’t wait to make this again!

1 pkg. raw pizza dough

1 Tbsp. olive oil

1 lb. ground beef

1 Tbsp. hamburger seasoning

1 medium red onion, thinly sliced

1 pkg. shiitake mushrooms, chopped

1/3 lb. gruyere cheese, shredded

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Spread the pizza dough on a cookie sheet or pizza stone, greased with olive oil.

Bake the dough for 8 minutes or as instructed on the package, just until it is golden yellow.

Meanwhile, brown the meat and the 1 Tbsp. hamburger seasoning.  Remove from pan and reserve the drippings.

Sautee the mushrooms and onions in the pan drippings.

Take the dough out of the oven.

Sprinkle the dough with meat, mushrooms and onions and finish with the cheese.

Put back in the oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.

Slice and serve!  Enjoy!
