Sometimes, once the holidays are over, the guests are gone, the tree has some down, the last of the glitter has been wiped up, it feels a little boring. I call this time the post-holiday doldrums. A doldrum is defined by dictionary.com as a state of inactivity or stagnation, as in business or art. Or in our case, home.
You look around and all you see are blank spaces. But now is the perfect time to change it up! Kiss those blues good-bye and liven up your living spaces for the rest of the winter!
The first place I look when I want to change things up is my couch. And what better way to spruce up your couch than with some pillows?! Go from drab to fab with new covers or by just adding more. Mix up the colors and patterns and freshen up your space.
Create a vignette! What’s a vignette, you ask? Well, its a stylish grouping of beautiful things. I know that some people feel decor paralysis when it comes to this. Don’t. It’s easy. Take some of your favorite objects, whether you think they go together or not, and arrange them on a table, shelf or other flat surface. If you love all of the objects they will make you smile, no matter what. I like to use candles, books and, of course, antlers!
Have you rearranged your artwork lately? Using the same pieces of art in different places can really enhance your space. Or finally hanging up items you just have lying around works too! I just love my vintage “men of Vanity Fair”. They are vintage drawings of prominent men from British Vanity Fair. I’m not a big collector of things, but these I will collect. I just love them!
Walk around your house and gather up the items that make you happy. Insert them into blank spaces. Reimagine your home. Even move furniture. It will feel fresh and new and surely get you in a good mood!
