Summer is setting in and all I can think about is getting to the beach. I love that salty air and the feel of sand between my toes, hunting for shells and reading a book in the sun. If I close my eyes I can picture it, almost feel it. But I must admit, as much as I love the beach itself, I LOVE beach decor. The light colors and soft tones, shells and colors of the sky and sea. So I have been searching for home tours to take me there. Here is what I have found. (Find more beach house inspiration on my Pinterest board.)
Since I live in North Carolina, my favorite beach destination is Kiawah Island, SC. It is just outside of Charleston and epitomizes beach elegance in the South. This beach house is the ultimate Kiawah Island getaway.
Being from New England, I also love the rocky coast of Maine. There are lighthouses and lobster, large boats and clam shacks. You can go whale watching, too! This coastal Maine cottage makes me remember summers as a child wandering along the shore of Bar Harbor or Holden Beach, looking at the beautiful houses and inns.
My first love affair with a beach house, totally and completely, head over heels, was the house in the movie “Somethings Gotta Give”. This Hamptons stunner is positively perfect from the inside out. Luckily, someone feels the same way I do and created this Pinterest board!

Once my children are old enough to appreciate the stain-ability of white furniture, I will have some. And my home will become more “beachy”, with light colors and sisal rugs. For now, I will dream and look at beach house tours and buy fabric that hides chocolate smears.
