My mission to organize my house is in full swing. I am taking it apart, bit by bit, and putting it back together in a more organized fashion. This week I decided to tackle my bathroom. Mostly because we are doing a little bathroom makeover (if you follow me on Instagram you already knew that!) and the cabinet refacer came and took all the doors off. Then I could really see how much junk was hidden in there! It was a little scary. But now it’s not. I’ve got bathroom organization all under control!
So here is what I discovered when the doors came off (literally). 3 of the same nail polish color, hoards of hotel shampoos, an empty storage bin, expired medications and lots of make-up bags. Oh, and did I mention that my husband over buys so we have lots of “back-up supplies”. Needless to say, this came at the perfect time. I started by clearing it all out and purging. The garbage bag came out and lots of unused, unneeded and expired stuff went. It felt so good!
Next came the cleaning. I wiped out every cabinet and drawer. If you don’t do this regularly, you should. Make-up residue and hair build up in there and it can get pretty gross.
Now it was time to organize! I came up with a strategy to help me put it all back together properly. Each cabinet and drawer stood for something special. For example, the bottom drawer became my feminine product storage. The left hand cabinet housed my hair care products and my skin care products. The right hand cabinet had nail polish and medications which I kept in storage containers. I discovered that my husband has a product hoarding problem. He buys in bulk and then just shoves things into a cabinet. (he does this in the pantry too) So I have now organized his side too.
The drawers I used for hair ties and brushes, all my make-up and the very top drawer was for the lotions and potions I need to keep me looking young. I got all of these little storage containers at Target a while back and they are still useful. So I washed them out and rearranged them to be more efficient.
The bottom cabinet under the sink I put quick beauty supplies and infrequently used items like make-up bags. It feels so good to have everything organized. Now, when the cabinets come back, it will look good inside and out!
