How do you get the kids ready to go back to school? Host a Back to School BBQ, of course! It’s an annual event at our house. Our school has a program where new families are matched with existing families. We have volunteered to host new families for the past 3 years. And every year we have tried to host a BBQ the weekend before school starts so that the new children can meet other children in their grades. It is alway fun!
I found these great little buckets in the Target $1 area. I just love Target, don’t you? I filled them up with Smarties candy and made these little signs. There was one for each child.
And what’s a party without cupcakes?! I found little apple candies to top off the frosting. Adorable!
I served good old pork BBQ and we did pot luck for the side dishes. The kiddos ran around with popcorn and chips and juices. I chose to do juice in cans because it looks like soda. Kind of a trick that works at our house. No soda, but it looks like it!
The kids ran around and played in the yard. The parents go to talk. Our new family got to know other parents and kids. They got to ask questions and I hope they feel more comfortable starting the first day of school. It was a lot of fun!
