Some people have the best parents. I mean, I’m pretty blessed in the parent department, but some folks go out of their way to change their children’s lives. For example, I was contacted a few weeks ago by a mother wanting to “fix up” her son’s bachelor pad. It was his first real apartment on his own but he still had the hand- me- down furniture and thrift store finds from his college days. His only couch was actually a futon. This lovely woman wanted her son to have a space he could be proud of. She just wasn’t sure how to get it that way. So she asked me to come up with 3 different e-design plans, each one different, just to see if she could get her son’s apartment to graduate to a sophisticated bachelor pad. She was going to do this for his Christmas gift.
So that got me thinking…. If I was going to decorate a bachelor pad for my son (in 15 years) what would I be thinking about. Well, I’d want it to be masculine. I’d want it to be cohesive. I’d want it to be comfortable and I’d want him to be able to have his friends over to watch football. Not knowing this young man’s personality, I decided to create 3 distinctly different rooms.
The first one I like to call The Cowboy.
The second one I like to call The Mod Squad.
And the third one I like to call The Architect. (my son wants to be an architect when he grows up!)
I’m not sure how all of this is going to go over. Some guys could never imagine their mom taking over their pad. But hopefully one of these plans speaks to him and his loving mother will be able to give him a very merry Christmas gift!
