One of my favorite things to do is wander around antique shops and thrift stores. I don’t necessarily have to buy something. I just love to wander. However, if something catches my eye, I will snatch it up in a heart beat. And that is exactly what happened recently when I went on a little antique and thrift jaunt.
I always say that when it comes to home decor, you should only buy what you love. Only what speaks to you and you will enjoy having in your house. But I alway leave “only what you have room for” at the door. You will make room if you love it. I found a couple of things that I had to make room for.
Like this antique hook and pulley attachment. It cost about as much as it weighs, but I loved the wood color. And you never see these. It is just a cool piece to display.
I also found this great little silver tray for $8. I read somewhere that whitening toothpaste works great to polish silver. I am happy to report that it is true! Because now that tray looks like this…..
I was picking through this bin of what I thought was just junk. I picked up an antique toy motorcycle. I thought it was broken. Then I discovered it had an attachment – a side car! It was so perfect for a little boys room that I had to have it. Even though my son has never liked motorcycles. I figure that I’ll find someone who loves this. It’s an adorable little vintage army motorcycle and the side car is a great little place to hold books or trinkets.
When I had had enough of the antique shop, I decided to stop by Goodwill. You never know what you may find. And today was my lucky day! I have dreams of setting up a sophisticated bar. I have no idea where, but I’d love it. And Goodwill has allowed me to get my start….. for $6!
I recently scored big at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. This vintage dresser was worth every penny. I can’t wait to refinish it. I’m thinking white with a deep, dark stained top. And maybe some glass knobs.
Don’t you love a good antique and thrift hunt?
