I have been working feverishly on furniture. I have been painting, sanding, scrubbing and distressing. I have been installing new hardware and delivering a finished product. And I have never been happier in my work. I love doing this! And I am so thankful to have people who like my work and hire me to breathe new life into their pieces.
Recently, I completed a dresser for some wonderful friends. They have twin boys who have decided that they no longer want to share a bedroom. So each boy is getting their own distinct style put into their bedroom. And it is very fun! I was asked to make a dresser a bid more mod. This dresser was the boy’s mother’s first big purchase when she went out on her own so it has a little sentimental value. And why throw away a perfectly good piece when it can get a little make over?
The dresser started off like this:
And this boy’s bedroom was going to be done in a mod gray and orange scheme. The walls are painted gray so we discussed black furniture. But then I thought that it would been too dark so I suggested we do the drawer fronts lighter. They ended up being white. And we changed out the hardware.
I distressed the drawer fronts just a little in places where they would get regular wear and tear. Or in places where they already had nicks and scrapes. I turned out great! I can’t wait to see when the whole room is done. I am finishing up a desk for them and then we will get to work on window treatments and pillows to bring it all together.
