How Domestic Charm came to be:
This blog was born out of necessity ….. my need to create a beautiful home, cook delicious meals for my family, entertain with ease and just enjoy my life. I wanted to create my own domestic charm when I became a stay at home mom by a series of circumstances that I disliked at the time, but I wouldn’t change now. In my searches for family friendly meals and home décor ideas, I realized that I had my own ideas to share and that there was a world of smart, talented women out there who embraced domestic life with gusto. And even more wonderful women who wanted to have this life but thought it was too complicated to pursue. Through this blog, I am here to share how simple it is to live a simply charmed life and enjoy every minute of your domestic world!
See, I did not plan on staying at home with my children. It’s the toughest job in the world and the most thankless, in my opinion. I imagined stay at home moms, stuck in their sweatpants, not having showered in days, with screaming children and dirty floors. I was determined NEVER to be like that! When my children were born I had a very successful real estate business. I joke that they started showing property at 3 months old! But then, in 2012, the real estate market in Charlotte, North Carolina went bust. And I was struggling to pay for child care and my marketing for my business. So my husband and I decided that I should stay at home, work if I could, and raise our children. It was the BEST thing that ever happened to me!
Pretty soon I was doing things that I didn’t know I’d always wanted to do! I was painting furniture and cooking new things. I was imagining throwing fabulous parties and being surrounded by friends. I was constantly moving things around the house and organizing spaces for ease of use. I was so…. DOMESTIC! Rewind to my childhood when my favorite after-school activity was rearranging my room and cleaning my closet. I guess I had it in me all along, I just never tapped into it. Ideas began to flow and I began to do my own projects and create my own recipes and I wanted to share them all. Domestic Charm the blog was born.
Over the last 5 years, my children have grown, and so have I. Life changes and your domestic surroundings and habits change too. But I am still enjoying it all, even though we get busier and life moves a bit faster. Entertaining with ease, cooking fabulous, family friendly meals, trying to look and feel young, and create a beautiful home are all passions of mine. With simple tricks and good planning, you can live a life of Domestic Charm too. And I’m here to share with you all of my ideas and tips, with humor thrown in for good measure, because life isn’t always perfect. But I think that anyone can fake it and live a life of domestic charm!
A Few Little Things About Me:
I am a New England girl with a Southern soul. I was born and raised in Connecticut but vacationed on Kiawah Island, SC every spring, spent summers in Maine, and froze my patooty off in winter. As soon as I was able, I headed to warmer weather! I still love New England in summer and fall, but Southern hospitality has my heart, year round.
My family, including the furry family members, are my world. My friends are a close second. I am blessed with 2 beautiful, smart and funny children, 3 furry house pets, 1 pet that lives in a barn (seriously) and a husband who deals with a creative personality trapped in a type-A body. My friends (husband included) are my biggest cheerleaders and eagerly allow me to experiment new recipes, cocktails and home décor ideas on them. For all of that, I am truly grateful!
I will always cheer for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. That’s it. Don’t ask me to change.
White jeans, distressed Frye boots and big earrings are my signature look. I try to change it up once in a while, but those are the most comfortable for me. Throw in a glass of rose’ and a sense of humor and you know me. 100%
