So I have to say that today I am going to be biased. This was my favorite home on the tour. And when myself and my two friends walked through the door, one of them looked at me and said “This is going to be your favorite.” I’d say she knows me pretty well! I have admired the work of the builder in local publications for some time now, so to see it in person was spectacular. Without further adieu, here is day 3 of my week of home tours. (If you missed day 1 and 2, catch them here and here.)
The plan by New Old Custom Homes is called the Welsh House and it is 4,879 square feet with 5 bedrooms. It was a super interesting layout. Not your typical plan, but so well done. From the entry you stepped up to the living room and the kitchen.
I loved the color palette in the home, and I typically don’t like green at all. Frances Leonhardt of Nest Home Furnishings and Designs, did beautiful design work in this house. I fell in love with the kitchen too. New Old is the perfect name for this home. The kitchen looks like a farmhouse kitchen with all of the modern amenities and luxury features you would want.
Again, this tour was during Chef’s Day so the kitchen was the hub of activity. I really wish I had gotten better pictures of it because my photos don’t do it justice!
One of the most brilliant things about this house was that it didn’t have a formal dining room, per se. The dining room was directly off of the kitchen and was perfectly designed for every day use or could be dressed up for a more formal occasion. But who really hosts sit down dinners anymore?
I also fell madly in love with the master bedroom. Just look at that planked ceiling! AMAZING! And then you moved on to the master bath. And the closet. I couldn’t get a photo of the closet because it was all mirrors, but let me just explain the brilliance of it. It was like a hall of mirrors and every mirror had a handle. And it pulled out to reveal racks or shelves or jewelry storage. Genius, I tell you.
The floors throughout this house were amazing. They were all left natural with a matte finish on them and were so soft to the touch. I never thought I’d like natural wood floors (I’m a dark stain girl) but these were so fantastic!
And sometimes the floors were laid in a herringbone pattern like in this foyer area and my heart skipped a beat.
Check out this “man cave”. I like to think of it as more of a cigar lounge. I love it. I really dig the carpet. It’s a very manly patterned carpet.
Before I entered this room I could hear my friend calling me from down the hall. “Brenna! I found Domestic Charm’s new home office!” and she was right. I could soooo call this office home. But seeing as my office is currently in the middle of my great room, I would call any office home. But this one was very much “me”.
The bedrooms were great, but I especially liked the boys bedroom. I think boys rooms are tough. You want them decorated but not girly or frilly in any way. This one was all boy, yet it maintained a style. It made me want to run home and redo my son’s room.
This is the guest bathroom. It has an exposed brick wall. Sigh. Don’t you love it?
And now for the crowning jewel….. my inspiration for the next One Room Challenge….
Functional and stylish. I love this laundry room!
I hope you enjoyed day 3! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s home tour….
