Well, she had been looking for a stool for her littlest subjects to sit on while she photographed them. And she finally found one at Goodwill, but it looked nothing like she needed it to. So, she asked me to help out. I gladly accepted!
Here is how the stool first looked:
See it there in the upper right? Yeah, not exactly what she was going for. So when I asked Emilie what she wanted it to look like she said “I don’t know. Very organic, I guess.” Hmmmm…..
I gave it my best shot.
The more I thought about it, the more the colors of barn wood and drift wood came to mind. Those brownish grayish tones. Here’s what I did.
First I took that little stool apart and I painted it brown. (Van Gogh chalk paint in Balsamic)
Then I dry brushed over it with some gray. (ASCP in French Linen)
I distressed it up a bit. Then I put two coats of polyurethane on it so that paint would stay put.
There are a couple of imperfections in the top that I couldn’t sand out because it would mess up the stool itself. It is made out of MDF with that plastic laminate over it. So if I sanded it too hard the laminate would begin to peel. Not good. I have some thoughts on how to fix it, but wanted to run it by Emilie first. It was a little project, but I wanted it to be just right!
