Maine is one of those states that draws you in and never leaves you, no matter how far away you travel. I have been traveling to Maine for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Connecticut and we would make the drive up every August for a couple of weeks to stay at a camp (that’s Maine-speak for cabin) that belonged to my mother’s cousin and was built by her father. And it holds some of the best memories for me.
So, when my parents retired and I had graduated from college, naturally, they looked to Maine so they could enjoy the area in their retirement. They purchased a sweet year round home on a small lake in Burnham, ME. Now, almost 15 years later, they are ready to leave the snowy winters and mild summers to head south and be closer to me and my family. Dad wants to hunt and fish less, and golf more. Mom just wants to be able to bake with her granddaughter and go antique hunting with me.
So my parents are selling their house. And I wanted to share it with you. Because it is a cute and rustic lake house that will make the perfect retreat for somebody. And the view is worth a million bucks. Which is way more than the actual asking price. J
My parents home is a ranch that sits on 1/4 of an acre overlooking Unity Pond. And it’s not a pond. It is a 7 acre lake. The home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, both formals, a large great room with a wet bar and an eat in kitchen with attached sun room.
I know, there is a lot of wood paneling. But my dad white washed the great room and it look amazing! I can only imagine what the rest of the house would look like after doing that. My parents had the kitchen fixed up a couple of years ago. My dad made all new cabinet doors, installed drawers and storage in the cabinets and made all the hardware match. Then they replaced the counter tops and replaced all the appliances with stainless steel.
But the absolute best part of the house is the view. The lake is so calm. In the mornings I love to sit out there and drink my coffee when I visit. It is so relaxing! And in the evenings, you can hear the loons calling (they are birds, not crazy people) and see them swimming and fishing. My son loves to go fishing with his Grampy and my daughter loves to skip rocks from the dock. We will really miss going there, but we will be very happy to have my parents closer.
