Beds should be for comfort and beauty. It’s not just one or the other. So when considering how squishy your mattress should be or how fluffy your pillows, you should also decide what colors you want to see on your bed, how many blankets your prefer and what types of throw pillows to use. Here are a few quick tips on styling the perfect bed.
Color – I love a solid colored background. I keep the main quilt or comforter solid. This way your pillows will pop, not compete, with too many other patterns and colors. It also means that you can change accent bedding as often as you like because it doesn’t mean changing EVERYTHING!
Pillows – The more the merrier is what I say! It just depends on how much time you want to spend making and un-making your bed each day. Here is a good rule of thumb for placing pillows on the bed: cover the seams. What do I mean by that? Well, depending on the type of pillows you use, cover the gap between 2 pillows with another pillow and allow them to layer on top of one another.
Blankets – This is where I like to mix in my pattern. My favorite thing to do is fold an extra duvet at the bottom of the bed. And then have the matching pillows somewhere at the top. This isn’t a must do, it’s just what I like to do. You can always add a blanket thrown over the middle or the foot of the bed as well for color and texture.
There you go. 3 easy steps to styling a bed. Now play with it a little. Add pillows and blankets. Make your bed a sanctuary, a place of rest and relaxation, but also beauty.
