So by now you have eaten and drank your way into 2019. Well, at least I have. And I’m hoping I’m not alone. But I really need some sort of detox. (And a diet, but we’ll talk about that later.) I am turning to some foods that have naturally anti-inflammatory properties to help me feel better and look better. These 2 detox drinks (one hot and one cold) can help you relax and recover from a fabulous holiday season.
Pineapple Mint Smoothie
Did you know that pineapples naturally reduce inflammation and swelling? If you are anything like me, your nose and cheeks swell when you have alcohol. Your eyes are puffy the next day and we won’t discuss the water retention. So having something that can reduce inflammation and swelling is perfect for a post-party recovery. Feeling queasy? The mint can improve your digestive issues awhile the coconut water can rehydrate you, all helping the nausea go away.
Here’s what you need:
1 C. diced pineapple
4-5 whole mint leaves
1 C. coconut water
2 C. ice
Toss all of it in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy for a healthy, refreshing AND detoxifying treat.
Now for a hot drink….
Golden Milk
I’m sure you have heard of Golden Milk by now. It’s called “golden” because one of the main ingredients is turmeric. Turmeric is an Indian spice that is golden in color and is packed with anti-inflammatory properties. There is also ginger and cinnamon in this drink which both have soothing properties while the ginger goes to work on settling an upset tummy.
Here’s what you need:
1 C. coconut milk
1 tsp. turmeric
½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. ground ginger
Maple syrup or honey to taste
Heat it slowly in a sauce pan until hot. Pour into a mug and garnish with a dash of nutmeg.
I like to drink the pineapple mint smoothie in the morning and the golden milk before bed. The smoothie wakes me up and gets me ready for the day, while the golden milk soothes me before bed. And after a couple of days, I am less puffy and feeling fully recovered from my holiday of no sleep, too much food and plenty of cocktails. I’m sure you
