It’s that time of year again. Time to peek inside the most wonderful holiday homes and I couldn’t be more honored to join all of these talented bloggers. I just love all of the wonderful decorations and ideas. It is so inspiring! So once you are done taking a peek inside my home (and this is only a peek. I plan to show you more next week!), please head on over to 11 Magnolia Lane to see Christy’s lovely home. And if you came here from there, thank you and check out more wonderful homes each day from the other participants.
If you are new to Domestic Charm, welcome! If you have been around for a while, you know that this is our first Christmas in our newly renovated home. We spent all summer in an apartment while we tore into the “ugly duckling” of a neighborhood close to school and friends. It is the BEST decision we ever made and I am enjoying the holidays so much here already. However, the renovation is just finishing up this week so that’s why you won’t see any pictures of the outside of my house. We didn’t have a sidewalk until yesterday! But I will share with you the fun I’ve had inside.
The one thing my husband asked when we moved in was that I wouldn’t clutter up the house with knick-knacks. We created a very clean and calming home that we both love and he just didn’t want to take away from that. I get it. And I agreed. So my biggest goal this holiday was not to over decorate.
Except for the tree…..
I had so much fun decorating this candy cane inspired tree! I especially love the top that I whipped up with some floral wire and sparkly, twiggy things! (that’s a real decor term, you know)
I tried to keep with the red and white theme throughout the main living area. Given that red is my favorite color, I was happy to do it!
I really tried to get my cat, Pepper, out of my shots but she was determined to get one of those red ornaments! She would not leave.
In the kitchen I kept the decorating to a minimum. It is open to the main living area so it had to be red and white too. I love putting ornaments on my light fixtures with ribbon. I’ve done it for as long as I can remember.
We have a second living room in this house. It is our main TV watching room and we call it the game room. That is where we decided to hang our stockings for Santa to fill.
I really adore family heirlooms. I try to use them wherever I can. They tell a story of your history and your family. That little sled belonged to my grandfather who grew up in Maine. I’m sure that thing got a lot of use! The snow shoes belonged to my dad when he and my mom lived in Maine. There really is nothing more beautiful than the forest after a snowstorm. And the moose antlers were from my dad’s first moose hunt. He is a great outdoorsman and this shows one of his proudest moments.
Since I had this outdoorsy thing going on with the mantle, I decorated our second tree very simply with some berries and faux poinsettias.
Thanks for taking a peek inside my holiday home! I am honored that you stopped by. I hope that this season fills your heart with joy and you find yourself with the ones you love. Happy Holidays!
